A lawn mower, as most of us know and even use, comprises of revolving blades for cutting the grass in your garden at an even length.

You can purchases a rotary mower that cuts grass with blades rotating around a vertical axis. You can even go for a reel or cylindrical machine that employs blades rotating at a horizontal axis.

You can either use a multi-gang type for commercial purposes such as used in golf courses and municipal parts. You can also buy a ride-on mower that are used in large lawns or even the small hand pulled ones, used generally for residential purposes.

All these mowers contain different types of parts ranging from decks, steering parts, wheels, tires, front axles, transmissions, or transaxles. You can also purchase different engine parts such as short blocks 5 through 18 HP, fly wheels, carburettors, or starters manufactured by Briggs & Stratton or by Wosconsin.

Used Exmark Mowers

!±8± Used Exmark Mowers

Exmark lawn mowers have been built to last through alot of abuse which comes with them being used for eight hour days and up to seven days per week. Although these mowers are built to the toughest standards it is very important to maintain them properly. A poorly maintained mower will fail alot faster than one that has been looked after with great care. When searching for your next used Exmark it is important to make sure that you will not need to put alot of money into replacing parts after your purchase.

Here are a few things to look out for:

Blade spindle bearings - Make sure there is no movement when you wiggle the pulley up and down. Any movement and you will need to replace the spindle housing.

Belts - Check for cracks, small tears and missing rubber. These are all signs that the belt is not in good condition and will need to be replaced.

Hydro pumps - If the deal seems to good to be true it's probably bad or leaky hydro pumps. These can be very costly to repair or replace. Those little pesky leaks ALWAYS turn into pump failure.

Engine - The engine should always run at a constant speed and should sound smooth. Erratic changes in engine speed could mean problems but are probably due to the engine needing some minor adjustments, new spark plugs or a clean air filter.

Tires - You will probably find a few tire plugs in the tires but I would worry about those. Just make sure there are no plugs in the sidewalls of the tires. Also look for large bubbles on the inside of the sidewalls. The older tires on the Exmarks tended to form bubbles which deformed the tires and made the mowers very bumpy and uncomfortable to use.
